WASHINGTON
June 19, 1945
MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT
Subject: President's Prospective Trip to Europe.
The Portuguese Ambassador called today and said that
he had received a message from his Government in con-
nection with your prospective trip to Europe. His Gov-
ernment would be most happy and honored if the plans
called for you to stop on Portuguese territory. He
thought that possibly this might be at the Azores or
even at Lisbon. In any case, his Government wished to
assure you that every courtesy and hospitality would be
extended to you and that it would be a great pleasure
and honor for the Portuguese people to extend their wel-
come. Suitable expressions of appreciation have been
conveyed to the Portuguese Government on your behalf.
Joseph C. Grew
Acting Secretary
