HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
Committee on Immigration
and Naturalization
Washington, D. C.
January 30, 1946
Honorable Harry S. Truman
President of the United States
The White House
Washington, D. C.
RE: White House release of December 22, 1945
relative to immigration
My dear Mr. President:
The House Committee on Immigration and Naturalization,
in two executive sessions, has carefully gone over and
considered your statement of December 22, 1945 relative to
immigration.
We feel this statement is unfortunate. The
Committee feels that immigration at this time should not
be encouraged. The Committee further feels that officials
of the State Department, the Department of Justice, and
also the appropriate committees of the Congress should be
consulted on any matters pertaining to immigration.
Respectfully yours,
/s/ John Lesinski, M. C.
Chairman, by
authorization of Committee
