Office of the President
of the Philippines
May 8, 1945
My dear Mr. President:
Today, as the freedom-loving world jubilantly
celebrates the end of the war in Europe, I take
great pleasure in sending you my most cordial
birthday greetings. This happy occasion which is
celebrated by your many good friends and well-
wishers is made happier by the news of Germany's
capitulation. As the leader of this great nation,
you personify the vigor and the will-to-win of
the forces of freedom and d emocracy in the
continuing struggle against the enemy. Under
your wise leadership, I know that total victory
will be hastened and that my people who have
stood loyally by America in the war will soon be
able to enjoy the blessings of freedom and
independence in peace and security.
With expressions of my highest consideration
and esteem, I am
Faithfully yours,
