Commissioner McNutt,/in his conference with President
Truman today discussed with him the pending proposals
regarding war damage compensation, mutually advantageous
trade relations between the United States and the Phil-
ippines after independence, and equitable adjustments
of base pay for Philippine Army enlisted men inducted
into the United States Army during the liberation cam-
paign. The President gave assurances of support to such
proposals ever mindful of the special relationship
existing between the American people and the Filipino
people, the long-standing friendship between them, and
the sincere desire of the administration to help the
Philippines get back on her feet.
