"metabegwaudi" FRANK E. LOWE P. O. Box 65 Harrison, Cumberland County, Maine. 10 June 46. Dear Mr. President: Today's paper carries the announce- ment that you will not be able to visit the Philippines; this is greatly to be regretted, as are the unfortunate circumstances that prevent your presence. Since you saw fit to name me as a mem- ber of your Special Mission in 1945, I do not feel that I am presumptious in expressing the hope that you will choose Gen. MacArthur to be the official representative of this country. It is my opinion that his nomination would best serve our future interests in The Philippines, the Far East and be most favorably received here at home. His record; his ability and experience and, above all, his loyalty to you make him "Superior" in every respect. A few days ago, while filing some records, I had occasion to review my own report on the Special Mission; nobody ever read it but in comparing (events) k with subsequent I found little to add and nothing to subtract; in fact I felt pretty good about it. As soon as I got back on the farm I broke out the old typewriter; it is nearly as old as I am; has lain idle for rising six years and will not be used too much in the future. Ra and I hope that you and your family, including your mother and sister, are well and as happy as is to be expected under present cir- cumstances. Yours respectfully, Drank FRANK E. LOVE, Maj. General, U. S. Army. Hon. Harry S. Truman, President of The United States of America. The White House, Washington, D. C.
