In accordance with your instructions and without incident
the second phase of my mission was completed today when the

President Quezon of the Philippines The unopened casket will
lie in state on board the ship during part of our three day stop-
over SO that the host of friends and admirers of the late
President here on the islands may have an opportunity to pay a
fitting and final tribute to him. I am in constant touch with
Mrs. Quezon and President Roxas. I an doing everything possible
to see that the nation's last farewell to a great patriot is in
the best American tradition and as you would like to have it.
Captain Hoskins of the Princeton who has so ably directed every-
thing, Col. Nieto and I will leave Pearl Harbor on the Princeton
on 12 July and you may expect a second report from me when we
arrive in Manila at noon on 27 July.
