TOP OFORET - 19 - The President asked the Prime Minister if he had any questions. The Prime Minister said, if the President would excuse him for a moment, he would like to translate some of General Bradley's remarks to General Juin. After a few moments of discussion in French between the Prime Minister and General Juin, the former turned to the President and explained that he had been telling General Juin of General Bradley's remarks that military considerations are responsible for the slowing down of communist advances. The President said that he wanted the Prime Minister to under- stand that we were being very careful to keep the fighting confined to Korea; that is, we were not overlapping into China. But if the Russians themselves get into the fight, or if we are attacked directly from bases in Manchuria, the President said, "I want you to know we will do whatever is necessary to meet the situation. We can't let our men be slaughtered by bandits. That's all they are, just bandits, and we won't stand by and let our boys die." General Bradley said he had forgotten to give the Prime Minister and General Juin the total number of allied troops. There are in Korea, he said, seven United States Divisions, ten ROK Divisions, and the equivalent of one more division made up of troops from Great Britain, TOP CLORET
