    "ocrText": "TOR SECRET\n- 2 -\nThe President opened the meeting by stating: \"I'd like to\nstart the conference off by telling you how much I a appreciate your coming\nhere to see me. I am glad you are here. I am especially glad since you\ncome from Kansas City! (This was a reference to the fact that Mr. Pleven,\nas a young man, worked for a short time in Kansas City, Missouri,\n)\nThe President said he would like to ask the Prime Minister to\ndesignate a member of his party to work with Mr. Bohlen and Mr. Short on\nthe communique.\nThe Prime Minister said he would ask Mr. Parodi and Mr. Alphand\nto represent him.\nThe President said that they should also appoint an economic\nsubcommittee which could report to the full conference on Tuesday after-\nnoon. Assistant Secretary Willard Thorp was already at work on economic\nquestions and he would be the President's representative.\nThe Prime Minister said that he would have Mr. Alphand and Mr.\nTRUMAN\nDaridan represent him.\nNATIONAL\nARCHIVES &\nRECORDS\nREVENUE\nADMIN\nThe President then said he thought that the Prime Minister\nU.S.COVERNMENT\nmight like to take up the Far East and discuss his attitude on questions\nrelating to Far Eastern affairs.
