routing and protection for shipping. The Chief U. S.
military representative at such a conference would be
an officer designated by Admiral Radford, Commander in
Chief, Pacific. Brigadier General Brink, U. S. Army,
in Indochina as Chief of the U. S. Military Advisory
Group to that country would also take part in these talks.
I understand that Assistant Secretary of State Rusk
is holding periodic meetings, at which your representatives
are present, in which he endeavors to keep you and our
other Allies up to date on events in Korea and with the
development of our thinking on Far Eastern problems.
Our representatives will sit down this week to
exchange views with your representatives and the British
on the positions we should take in the event that con-
versations with the Soviet Union materialize.
We are in close consultation with your representatives
and the British in regard to the best means of handling
the important raw materials problem.
Through our Deputies sitting in London, we are in
close and constant touch with your people in regard to
the vital problem of Western European defense.
There is extremely close consultation between our
delegation in New York and the French and British
U.S. NATIONAL ARCHIVES & RECORDS GOVERNMENT ADMIN." DEPARTMENT
