MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT
Subject: Transmitting Marshal Stalin's reply
to Churchill's message regarding Poland.

You will find attached translations of a per-
R&C
sonal message to you from Marshal Stalin as well
as a copy of his message to the Prime Minister in
reply to his communication of April 28 on the
Polish question.
As you will note Stalin indicates that the
attitude assumed by Mr. Churchill "eliminates the
possibility for a harmonious solution of the Polish
question. If
I assume that the Prime Minister has repeated
this message to Mr. Eden who undoubtedly will show
it to Mr. Stettinius.
