MEMORANDUM FOR: Robert E. Hannegan
Chairman
Democratic National Committee
FROM:
The President
Thanks for your note of the eighteenth in
regard to Puerto Rico.
I am well acquainted with Fairleigh Enright
and Howard Bruce. I know something of J. R. Parten and
have met Fred Bays. However, as I told you once before,
I think the new Governor of Puerto Rice should be a native
Puerto Rican and I still cling to that viewpoint.
I have no one in mind for it except that General
Pedro A. Del Valle has been recommended to me.
I also thank you for your suggestion about McKeough.
I will be glad to talk to you about these two
matters at any time.
