DECLASSIFIED ADDRESS OFFICIAL COMMUNICATIONS TO THE SECRETARY OF STATE WASHINGTON, D. C. Authority E.O. 10501 DEPARTMENT OF STATE WASHINGTON January 22, 1948 RESTRIOTE MEMORANDUM FOR MR. CONNELLY: As a Spanish translator-interpreter for the Presi- dent I suggest Guillermo A. Suro, head of our Translat- ing Bureau in the State Department. Suro was born and educated in Puerto Rico, is forty-one years old, and widely experienced in oral and written translating at international conferences. He has been with the Pan American Union and the State Department for the past twenty years, and his translations of speeches are said to be sometimes better than the speeches themselves. I can recommend him without hesitation for the job we have in mind, but I shall say nothing to him about it unless instructed to do so.
