Dear Charlie:
A very dear cousin of mine has
begged me to get some facts about
Romania to someone close to the
President, SO of course I turn to
you.
My cousin is Mrs. Gunther, whose
husband was our Minister to Romania
until he died there in 1942. She has
just returned from a visit there of
eighteen months, and is greatly con-
cerned over conditions.
Her story is, that they need a
million tons of grain, and that the
least they can get along with is four
hundred thousand tons over five months.
This Government has agreed to seven-
teen thousand tons a month, which in
five months will amount to only
eighty-five thousand, which would
seem quite inadequate.
Perhaps there is nothing to be done
and perhaps the President knows all
this already - You will know the ans-
wer.
My best to you and Florence,
Faithfully,
Hairy
