DISPOSITION OF LAVAL. The British Foreign Office
states that it is not anxious to relieve Franco of his
embarrassment in connection with the disposition of
Laval. The British will for the time being adhere to
the position that Laval should be surrendered directly
to the French Government.
FUTURE STATUS OF POLISH CORPS IN ITALY. General
Anders, Commander of the Polish armed forces under the
London Government, has recalled to SAC Churchill's agree-
ment in principle that the Corps in Italy should, after
the end of hostilities there, be transferred to Germany
to unite with other Polish forces in the occupation of
Germany. Alexander's reply was indefinite but he stated
that the Polish Corps could probably be spared from Italy
within a few weeks. Anders also asked that a small group
of Polish officers be attached to the 15th Army group in
order to care for Poles in Austria and Northern Italy.
Alexander pointed out delicacy of this question but prom-
ised to give it further consideration.
ALLIED REPRESENTATIVES IN VIENNA. The Soviet Foreign
Office has replied to our representations regarding the
withdrawal of permission for our representatives to pro-
ceed to Vienna. The reply maintains that the Soviet Govern-
ment has not and does not object to our representatives
proceeding to Vienna to participate in the control machinery
but states that agreement to their proceeding was given in
the expectation that EAC would have decided upon the zones
of occupation. The Soviet Government cannot accept a pro-
posal to transfer consideration of occupation zones to
Vienna.
VENEZIA GIULIA. Allied capitulation continues to the
Yugoslavs in Venezia Giulia. AFHQ has put a bold face on
it to the Italians and ordered that Bonomi not be told AMG
has not yet been established there. East of the Isonzo,
Yugoslav military government is in full swing.
