Allied Mission to Discuss Zoning of Vienna. The
leaders of both the American and British Missions
in Vienna have received instructions that they might
participate in informal discussions with Marshal
Tobulkhin regarding the zoning of Vienna but they are
not authorized to enter into any agreements or commit-
ments. Their instructions provide for the possible
division of the city within its 1938 limits provided
adequate airport facilities and accommodations for
training in the surrounding country are secured. Al-
ternatively they may discuss zoning arrangements on
the Gau basis.
Leaders of the US and British missions were in-
structed on June 11 that it would not be necessary
for them to reconnoiter airfields east of the Danube.
They are at liberty to withdraw at any time but should
coordinate such departure with the French mission. If
they feel that any useful purpose can result from their
filing a protest with Marshal Tobulkhin that they have
been deprived from obtaining an overall picture through
refusal to allow them to inspect the airfields east of
the river, they are to make such protest; otherwise, the
subject may be dropped.
Acting Secretary
