ADDRESS OFFICIAL COMMUNICATIONS TO THE SECRETARY OF STATE WASHINGTON 25, D. c. DEPARTMENT OF STATE WASHINGTON April 21, 1948 SBORET MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT Dr. Chaim Weizmann furnished Secretary Marshall with a copy of his letter to you of April 9, 1948. I believe you will be greatly interested in the attached telegram from our Mission in New York which describes a con- versation between Senator Austin and Dr. Weizmann on our trusteeship proposals. The most interesting part of this tele- gram is found on the second page, where Dr. Weizmann suggests that a trusteeship which would include immigration, land settlement and economic development might provide an opportunity for an agreed political settlement between Jews and Arabs. 8.
