THE SECRETARY OF STATE
WASHINGTON 25, D. c.
DEPARTMENT OF STATE
WASHINGTON
April 21, 1948
SBORET
MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT
Dr. Chaim Weizmann furnished Secretary Marshall with a
copy of his letter to you of April 9, 1948.
I believe you will be greatly interested in the attached
telegram from our Mission in New York which describes a con-
versation between Senator Austin and Dr. Weizmann on our
trusteeship proposals. The most interesting part of this tele-
gram is found on the second page, where Dr. Weizmann suggests
that a trusteeship which would include immigration, land
settlement and economic development might provide an opportunity
for an agreed political settlement between Jews and Arabs.
