THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
October 31, 1949
PERSONAL
Dear President Weizmann:
I am deeply indebted to you for an act
of thoughtful generosity. That Ark which you have
now sent me as a repository for the Scrolls of the
Law -- an earlier gift from you -- is an artistic
triumph.
It is not only a superb piece of crafts-
manship but it is of profound historic interest.
Very impressive are those quotations from the ancient
books of Exodus and Deuteronomy and the Psalms, sug-
gesting as they do the ritualistic significance of
both the Ark and the Scrolls.
I shall always treasure this gift and
feel that it will be an inspiration to all who
see it.
Very sincerely yours,
HARRY S. TRUMAN
SERVICE
His Excellency
Chaim Weizmann,
