CHART 3.
By the end of 1947 Yugoslavia had annual
trade agreements with all the Soviet bloc
countries. In addition, it had long-term
(usually 5 years) trade or investment agree-
ments with the USSR, Czechoslovakia, Poland,
Hungary, and Albania.
In 1948, the trade agreements with the
Soviet bloc countries were renewed with
1
greater values stipulated for many commodities.
But in 1949, there were sizable reductions in
the amounts involved under the trade agree-
ment renewals, and by mid-year, trade with the
bloc practically ceased.
Yugoslavia in 1948 a) renewed previous agree-
ments with the West and
b) increased the values
stipulated, and
c) concluded its first
agreements with Austria,
the UK, and the Western
Zones of Germany.
As preliminaries or adjuncts to its agree-
ments with the Western countries, Yugoslavia
also made settlements for nationalization
claims of certain of these countries.
Yugoslavia has also increased the number
of long-term agreements made with the West.
