App-5 b. By 1948, the Soviets were beginning to put forth tremendous efforts in the uranium mining operations. The rate of production had begun to increase significantly by mid-year, and continued to increase throughout 1949 and 1950. but it 1s believed that the Soviets will be able to produce 1500 to 3000 c. Estimates of uranium ore production for the future are uncertain, tons of U308 per year for several years from currently known sources. It is reasonable to expect that additional sources will be developed. The estimated cumulative production of uranium in tons of U308 up to 1954 is shown in Figure 1 below. This estimated uranium production is sufficient for the program outlined herein. - 7 - TOP SECRET RESTRICTED DATA
