VAL-KILL COTTAGE HYDE PARK, DUTCHESS COUNTY THING NEW YORK June 30, 1946 - - Dear Mr. President: I have Just received an item from News Week, which states that you have told your advisers to be on the lookout for women qualified to take over several top Jobs in the Administration. This item was sentr to a friend of mine, who forwarded it to me, by the chairman of the Women's Congressional Committee, in "ashington. This group represents a rather large number of women's organizations and I think among them, there are several people who have been afraid that in the reorganization of the govern- ment, women were being eliminated from important Jobs and functions, such as the Children's Bureau, which had been of particular interest to women, +in being intergrated with other groups, were passing out of control of the women who had headed them and might be completely changed in their aims. This item will, I think, encourage them. I used to have to remind the gentlemen of the Party rather with less are us. frequently had Among the liberals, our that best we labor, Democrats workers and in did women, all not campaigns, largely win un- we the women. They will do the dull detail work and fill the uninteresting speaking engagements which none of the men are willing to undertake. I hope you will impress this fact on those who are now organizing for the Congressional campaigns and in preparation for 1948. With every good wish, 1 am, Very cordially yours, Thank
