    "ocrText": "TRUMP\n\"NATIONAL\nARCHIVES\nAND\nRECORDS\n- 5 -\nSERVICE\"\nIn the last sixteen years, Democratic administrations have built\na firm foundation for a new and greater West.\nWe restored grazing lands for the sustained production of live\nstock. Millions of cattle and sheep feed today where only prairie\ndogs and rattlesnakes existed before.\nWe restored forests for a sustained yield of timber. Trees stand\nfor the future where exploiters have been kept out.\nWe established a sound conservation policy to prevent land erosion\nand restore the fertility of the soil.\nWe built the Federal system of hydro-electric and irrigation\nprojects which are now providing water for more than five million\nirrigated acres in the West and for better living for millions of\npeople.\nWe have been leading the fight for decent housing, effective\nreduction of the cost of living, and a rise in living standards--\nall for a better Nation of happier people.\nThat is the Democratic record -- a record of which I am\nexceedingly proud.\nThere is more to do, much more. What we have done SO far is only\nthe beginning. This is no time to permit your progress to be checked,\nwhen you can foresee great new developments of your agriculture, your\nindustry and your commerce, if you have the aid and support of the\nFederal Government.\nYour need is to insure the election of an Administration pledged\nto give you that aid and support-- Democratic Administration.\nThere is a hard fight ahead. We shall have to fight the slick\npolitical propaganda. of the special interests and the Republican\nleadership.\nWe shall have to fight the millions of dollars that Wall Street\nis pouring into the treasury of the Republican Party.\nWe shall have to fight the Republican undercover sabotage of the\nWest.\nBut we of the Democratic Party are eager for that fight. We\nbelieve that we owe to future generations the bequest of a strong\nAmerica, mighty in its resources and wise in its use of them.\nWe are firmly determined to leave after us a land that is better\nthan we found it.\n##"
