AIR
In aerial combat, North Korean aircraft have not hesitated to
take the initiative in attacking USAF aircraft. Although North Korean
aircraft have apparently come off second best when engaging airborne
USAF fighters, they have been effective in ground strafing attacks.
North Korea possesses sufficient aircraft to carry out small scale bomb-
ing and strafing missions against South Korea. However, losses probably
will restrict such operations to short range missions. One aircraft
attacking in Suwon area possibly a Yak-9.
The planned attack on 29 June by 12 B-29 aircraft from Kadena
(Okinawa) on enemy-held Kimpo Airfield, primarily on buildings and
facilities except runways, is reported successful by the press. Suwon
airstrip is practicable for air supply if air cover provided. Combat
aircraft are to be based in Korea as soon as possible. (D/I-USAF)
