1. Weather: Ceiling and visibility generally unlimited. Weather
did not affect missions.
2. Soviet participation: Negative.
3. Operations:
a. No information has been received of significant changes in
the situation in the last 22 hours. Miscellaneous information indicates
that the North Koreans continue to move personnel and materiel across
the Han River by bridges, ferries, barges, and other craft, presumably
in preparation for a movement to the south. (G-2) (SECRET)
b. General MacArthur in Tokyo has requested the press, for
security reasons, to refrain from identifying U.S. units more specifically
than as the 5th and 20th Air Forces, the 7th Fleet, and the Eighth Army.
C. The South Korean Government has moved 80 miles south
from Taejon to Kwangju "as a precautionary measure", according to
FECOM.
d. At approximately 1800/02, the South Korean Minister of
National Defense Shin Sung-mo arrived by jeep in Taejon from Suwon,
followed by General Chae and six officers of the South Korean General
Staff, including Colonel Kang, the South Korean G-2. (CIA) (SECRET).
G-2 comment - General Chae was previously reported replaced as Chief
of Staff of South Korean Army by General Chung Il Kwon.
e. The South Korean police in Taejon are arresting all Commun-
ists and executing them on the outskirts of the city. (SECRET) (CIA re-
ports and evaluates B-2).
ARMY
f. The 24th Infantry Division, plus attached troops, less air
transported units, will be brought up to authorized strength by the Eighth
