enemy elements have made a limited advance southward, according to
FECOM. (G-2 Comment: The main artery referred to is probably the
railway which runs approximately 2 miles west of Suwon.) With South
Korean forces still holding Suwon, the movement of NK forces to the east
of Suwon is developing into a wide envelopment. This advance while sig-
nificant and threatening, had not, according to FECOM, reached serious
proportions at 0300/04(EDT). At 0415/04(KT) an estimated 2 infantry
battalions were located at Sinnim: and 800 infantry, supported by 4 tanks
and 5 armored cars were reported in Wonju. Two enemy columns of unknown
strength, reported moving southeast of Suwon, have joined forces and
are headed west toward Osan. At 0845/03, 3 bodies of enemy troops of
undetermined strength were located in the general area near the east
coast about 25 miles south of Utchin. (FECOM) (SECRET)
ARMY
Aside from press reports, no contact between U.S. and NK
ground forces has been reported as of 0700/04(EDT). FECOM expected
reports soon thereafter. Elements of the 21st U.S. Infantry Regiment
were moving on Osan at 1400/04(KT). (FECOM) (SECRET)
*C. The buildup of the 24th U.S. Infantry Division and supporting
combat and service units continues in Korea. The 21st Infantry Regiment,
the 34th Infantry Regiment, and the 52d Field Artillery Battalion have now
arrived in Korea. The balance of the 19th Infantry Regiment is expected
to complete its movement to Korea tonight (KT). (FECOM) (SECRET)

At 0001/04(KT) CINCFE established the command, United
States Army Forces in Korea (USAFIK). Major General William F. Dean
was appointed Commanding General. At the same time the Pusan Base
Command, with Brigadier General Crump Garvin as Commanding General,
was established as a subordinate command of USAFIK, The CG, USAFIK,
assumes control of KMAG for the purpose of utilizing it in the reorganiza-
tion and control of the Republic of Korea (ROK) forces. ADCOM (Advanced
Command and Liaison Group, General Headquarters, FECOM) is attached
to Headquarters, USAFIK. (FECOM)
NAVY
*e. Naval patrol planes of the Seventh Fleet are continuing anti-
submarine patrols Kyushu-Korea, escort duty Sasebo-Pusan, and coast
patrol. Results carrier strike 3 July not yet received. (ONI) (SECRET)
