Enemy Situation
*a. As of 2100/07(KT) the enemy continued to press south, with
an enveloping movement by the 3₫ and 4th North Korean Divisions, until
the front line reached from a point north of Chonan, northeast to Mugung,
thence to Chungju, thence generally east to the east coast. From west to
east, the enemy 1st, 3d, and 4th Divisions are spearheading the advance.
The enemy 5th Division is probing south and west from Wonju toward the
6th South Korean Division position near Mugung, with some elements mov-
ing west to Ansong. FECOM estimates that the North Koreans are employ-
ing a total force of nine divisions supported by attached armor. (FECOM)
(SECRET)
*b. On the east coast, enemy movement to the south continues,
with 500 enemy troops reported surrounded by 2 South Korean battalions
30 miles south of Utchin at Pyongok. Minor guerrilla activity has been re-
ported at nearby Yongdok. (FECOM) (SECRET)
*C. At 2100/07(KT), FECOM stated that enemy ground units are
advancing south on every highway and trail in Korea from coast to coast.
The morale of the North Korean forces is, according to FECOM, extremely
high. Reports from the front indicate skill and resourcefulness on the part
of the enemy in eliminating road blocks by envelopments. (FECOM)(SECRET)
