1. Weather: Generally excellent for aerial operations on 10 July (KT).
2. Soviet participation: Negative.
3. Operations:
a. The enemy 1st Division which initially encircled the 3d Bat-
talion, 34th Infantry at Chonan has advanced to the vicinity of Chongan
although the 3d Battalion has since extricated itself. (CINCFE) (SECRET)
b. The enemy, probably the 3d NK Division, is also in contact
with US Forces just north of Chochiwon. (CINCFE) (SECRET)
C. At Chinchon the 2d NK Division engaged elements of the ROK
1st Corps on a front just south of the city. (CINCFE) (SECRET)
d. Enemy pressure on the ROK 6th Division forces in the Umsong-
Chungju area gained some ground. Units of the 15th NK Division have
forced ROK 6th Division elements back to the high ground northwest of
Umsong. An enemy battalion with other forces in support, opposed ROK
6th Division elements just south of Chungju. (CINCFE) (SECRET)
e. Increased activities on the east coast still indicate a steady
southward movement with only moderate opposition. (CINCFE) (SECRET)
f. Near Kwangju NK supplies reportedly are being moved by NK
troops in civilian clothes. They are using oxcarts for transport in an
attempt to pose as refugees and hence avoid strafing. (CINCFE) (SECRET)
g. No enemy fighter opposition encountered 10 July. Three Yak-15
jet fighters observed over Chonan 9 July. Flak reported put up in rows in
Suwon area for pilots to hit when flying through. Barrage balloons at 1,500
feet with hanging cables in Chonan area. Several U.S. aircraft reported
