SOUTH KOREAN ARMY
k. The 1st ROK Corps continued its defense along a line running
generally from Munui to the area southwest of Koesan with the 1st Division
on the right and the 2d Division on the left. The Capitol Division is
moving to Poun to constitute the 1st Corps Reserve. The 17th Regt is
also moving to Poun. (FECOM) (TOP SECRET)
1. The 2d Corps, consisting of the 6th Division, 8th Division, and
23d Infantry Regiment, was established as of 14 July with Headquarters at

m, First Neptune reconnaissance report along the east coast on the
night of 16-17 July showed a few small unidentified vessels along the
coastal area. The fishing fleet previously reported as 50 vessels was
picked up 70 miles south of its earlier reported position of 40-40N
and
129-25E. (COMNAVFE) (CONFIDENTIAL)
n, The Seventh FLEET, when released from its support mission
for TF90, will conduct carrier air strikes from the Japan Sea against
North Korean military targets on or about 19 July, and then retire for
replen ishmenton 20 July. Strikes on 21 and 22 July will be made from the
Yellow Sea area. (COMNAVFE) (SECRET)
O Reconnaissance flights by land-based (Navy) Privateers are
planned to commence in the general area of the North Formosan Straits
on or about 18 July, (COM7thFLT) (CONFIDENTIAL)
p. HMS ALACRITY, during its inshore patrol of the Korean west
coast, recovered 7 members of the B-29 crew who bailed out on 12 July.
Two other crewmen are reported to have parachuted; the remainder are
believed to have been in the aircraft when it exploded. (COMNAVFE) (SECRET)
q. On 15 July JUNEAU, DEHAVEN and MANSFIELD harassed the east
coast. JUNEAU destroyed a radio station at 36-41.5N and silenced counter
battery fire (75-mm.) in the same vicinity. JUNEAU also shelled an
observation post at 36-31.5N and a radio station at 36-36N with unobserved
results. During the same period, DEHAVEN shelled Pyonghae and bridges
at 36-43N and 36.46N. An observing aircraft reported fires in Pyonghae and
one bridge destroyed. (COMNAVFE) (TOP SECRET)
