The 6th ROK Division attacked and seized a hill 4 miles northwest of Hamchang. The 1st ROK division continued the attack and advanced to a line 7 miles northwest to 10 miles north of Hamchang. Four carrier air strikes on 28 July against enemy transportation and installations in southwest Korea resulted in the destruction of railroad cars, locomotives, warehouses, factories, powerhouses, 1 large oil tanker and 1 tank. Half of the town of Nonsan was burned. Enemy troops attempting to cross the river near Hamchang were attacked with about 50 killed. Enemy troops in a tunnel were bombed with napalm. (FECOM) (SECRET) n. USS TOLEDO (CA) and USS MANSFIELD (DD) patrolled the east coast firing night harassing and illumination missions during night of 27/28 July. Troops in the vicinity of Yongdok were bombarded. TOLEDO and USS COLLETT (DD) fired call fire missions on Yongdok 28 July. The ROK Navy maintained a close blockade of the southwest coast. USAF claims of 29 July, based on incomplete reports, include: one tank, 10 trucks, 1 locomotive, 2 railroad cars, 9 vehicles, and 2 bridges destroyed; 8 trucks, 28 box cars, 4 other vehicles, and 3 bridges probably damaged.
