LECRET on the morning of 5 August. Two Neptunes provided air spot. Firing was re- ported accurate with excellent effect on barracks, oil installations, factories, warehouses, RR station, transformer station, gun positions, and electric light plant. (COMNAVFE) (SECRET) k. USS SICILY-based Marine aircraft carried out 3 air strikes on 4 Aug- ust hitting Uiryong, bridges at Chinju and 5 miles east of Uiryong, and two other villages in the Chinju area with 5-inch rockets, bombs and machine gun fire. Four medium fires were started at Uiryong and the two villages were left burning intensely. (CTU 96.23) (SECRET) AIR 1. FEAF claims for 5 August, based on incomplete reports, include: 6 tanks, 21 trucks, 4 locomotives, 20 boxcars, 4 other vehicles, 150 troops, 1 oil storage tank, 4 field guns, 3 bridges, 1 transport vessel, 1 ammunition dump destroyed; 4 tanks, 15 trucks, 4 locomotives, 30 boxcars, 12 other rail cars, 3 other vehicles, 1 bus, 3 half-track, 1 bridge, 2 RR tunnels, 2 wooden coastal vessels, and 1 artillery piece damaged.
