Weather: Broken to overcast at 2500 feet in the afternoon with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the southern mountain areas. Forecast: Gen- erally unchanged. 2. Soviet Participation: Negative. 3. Enemy Situation: a. Heavy fighting continued in the Chinju area. Enemy positions were penetrated as small gains were reported by attacking U.S. units. The enemy is reported using self-propelled guns in this area. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. The enemy is reported crossing the Nam River in undetermined strength south of the junction of the Nam and the Naktong. An estimated enemy battalion is east of the Naktong in an area about 6 miles west of Yongsan. An undetermined number of troops are reported crossing the Naktong about 8 miles west of Changnyong Four separate concentrations of enemy troops and artil- lery are reported about 5 miles east of Chogye and 7 miles southeast. A pilot reports numerous trucks and vehicles on the Kumchon-Kochang-Anui road. An enemy tank regiment is reported 8 miles east of Hyopehon. Enemy concentra- tions of estimated company size are reported in an area about 10 miles north of Changnyong. Numerous enemy vehicles reported 6 miles southeast of Chogye were attacked by friendly air. An enemy attack was reported against the positions of the 19th U.S. Infantry Regiment. (FECOM) (SECRET) C. Two enemy battalions are reported crossing the Naktong five miles north of Waegwan, with additional tank supported troops attempting to cross. Enemy patrols making probing attacks supported by artillery and mortar fire were reported in the 1st U.S. Cavalry Division sector. (FECOM) (SECRET) d. The 2d North Korean Division was reported moving from Kumchon toward Waegwan, while the 3d North Korean Division was reported moving from Kumchon southward to an unknown destination.
