Enemy pressure continues along the entire northern front\nforcing the withdrawal of the 6th and 8th ROK Divisions to new defen-\nsive positions. (FECOM) (SECRET)\ne. The previously reported enemy regiment in the vicinity of Pongsan\nis now estimated to be battalion size. Reinforcements for the 5th North\nKorean Division are arriving from the north as heavy fighting continues\nin the Yongdok area. (FECOM) (SECRET)\n4. Friendly Situation\nGROUND\na. 1st U.S. Cavalry Division: Task Force Hyzer was detached\nfrom the 24th U.S. Infantry Division and attached to the 1st U.S. Cavalry\nDivision, remaining in position between the 7th Cavalry RCT and the\nright flank of the 24th Division. Division units continue aggressive patrol\naction. Artillery fire in support of the ROK attack was furnished. Elements\nof the 7th Cavalry RCT engaged the enemy in a short fire fight 11 miles\nsouthwest of Taegu. The 5th Cavalry RCT was engaged in reducing an\nenemy penetration 5 miles east of Waegwan.\n(FECOM) (SECRET)\nb. 2d U.S. Infantry Division: The 3d battalion, 9th RCT, remains\nin Kyongsan as EUSAK reserve. The remainder of the 9th RCT was\nattached to the 24th U.S. Infantry Division. The 23d RCT remains at\nWondong as EUSAK reserve. (FECOM) (SECRET)\nc. 24th U.S. Infantry Division: The 1st battalion, 9th RCT, was\ncommitted in the 34th RCT sector. The balance of the 9th RCT (less 3d\nbattalion) arrived in the vicinity of Changnyong. The 19th and 34th RCTs\ncontinued to engage the enemy pocket 6 miles west of Yongsan. Task\nForce Perry has been relieved of its mission to support the 3d ROK Divi-\nsion and will move to Chongdo and revert to 24th Division control. (FECOM)\n(SECRET)\nd. Task Force Kean: The Task Force renewed the attack to secure\nthe high ground east and southeast of Chinju. The 24th RCT is in the vicinity\nof Haman. The 35th RCT continued its advance to the west with leading\nelements reaching Sagong, 12 miles due east of Chinju. The 5th Infantry\nRCT continued to advance under heavy enemy fire; its leading elements\nreached the Kogan area, placing friendly forces in possession of high\n2"
