TOLEDO, DEHAVEN and SWENSON patrolling on east coast fired on various targets of opportunity, and at 1543/08(KT) were relieved by HELENA, with DESTROYER DIVISION 111 which had con- ducted a harassing and interdiction bombardment in the vicinity of Tanchon (40-28N 128-54E) on the night of 7-8 August with heavy damage and fires reported in rail and warehouse areas. KENYA, COSSACK and COCKADE patrolled west coast. (COMNAVFE) (SECRET) j. CINCFE has directed that all carrier air efforts for the period 8 through 17 August be of close support and interdiction type. Coordi- nation control and target direction will be the responsibility of the Joint Operation Center at Taegu. (COMNAVFE) (SECRET) AIR k. On 9 August, 25 B-29's bombed individual highway and railroad bridges with excellent results. Three missions of 4 B-26's bombed highway and railroad bridges with poor to excellent results. Thirteen B-26's and 8 F-82's performed night intruder missions. Missions by F-80s and F-51s were generally successful. USAF claims for 9 August, based on incomplete reports, include: 2 tanks, 4 trucks, 2 box cars, 2 buildings, and 1 gun position destroyed; 5 tanks, 10 trucks, 1 locomo- tive, 10 box cars, 1 building, and 1 railroad road tunnel damaged. (FEAF) (SECRET) 1. On 10 August, one B-29 group will bomb marshalling yards and locomotive shops at Wonsan. Two B-29 groups will bomb the oil refinery at Wonsan, (FEAF) (SECRET) m. The unidentified B-29 type aircraft, reported on 7 August with bombing aircraft over Pyongyang, now has been identified as a USAF RB-29.
