j. EVERTSEN (DD) was damaged by grounding and is being towed by
COCKADE (DD) to Sasebo. (COMNAVFE) (SECRET)
k. Marine aircraft from SICILY (CVE) and BADOENG STRAIT (CVE)
continued effective close air support missions for the ground forces in the
southern sector using rockets, bombs, and gunfire with the following results:
2 machine gun nests, 1 mortar position, 4 artillery emplacements, and 2 tanks
destroyed; 1 bridge damaged. In addition, attacks were made on troop concen-
trations under the direction of ground control during which enemy troops were
cleared from a hill crest area, a ravine, and other areas of concentration.

1. Naval aircraft from PHILIPPINE SEA (CV) and VALLEY FORGE (CV)
conducted a strike against the Inchon-Seoul area with the following results:
a metal works at Inchon, 2 warehouses, 500 oil drums, 8 tanks, 14 trucks,
12 ammo trucks, a direct 1000# bomb hit on the west Seoul bridge, a direct
1000# bomb hit on the middle Seoul bridge, 1 half-track, 1 power station,
3 transformers, 1 gas tank, 1 RR oil car, 1 bus, 4 RR box cars, 1 ammo
dump, and a section of RR track were destroyed; a supply dump, many ware-
houses, a vehicle factory, a transportation assembly plant, barracks, RR yards,
7 trucks, 3 tanks, 1 bridge, 1 ammo dump, 1 tunnel with a train inside,
1 RR train, switching yards, and AA positions were damaged. (COM7THFLT)

m. The heaviest strike to date was made on 10 August by B-29's which
dropped approximately 625 tons of bombs on major North Korean targets.
The Wonsan marshalling yards and railroad repair shops as well as the Oil
Refinery at Wonsan were hit heavily by visual bombing. Flames were seen
to rise to 3,000 feet. Other B-29's attacked main transportation lines and
bridges in North Korea with fair to excellent results. Very little flak was
encountered. At Seoul, 3 F-51's attacked Kimpo airfield destroying 3 Yak-
type aircraft, 3 fuel dumps, and 3 AA positions. (FEAF) (SECRET)
n. Partial reports state that the 5th Air Force flew 159 sorties in support
of ground operations as of 1800/10 (KT). With the good weather prevailing
in the area, this figure is expected to exceed 400. (FEAF) (SECRET)
