Weather: Clear weather in Korea, with good visibility at night, slightly reduced by haze in the early morning. Forecast: Continued clear weather. 2. Soviet Participation: Negative. 3. Enemy Situation: a. The 6th North Korean Division WES forced back to the vicinity of Chungchon by the attacking 35th U.S. Infantry RCT. The 1st U.S. Marine Brigade, continuing to advance against light resistance, penetrated enemy positions to within 1 mile of Kosong. An estimated 300 North Korean troops are 7 miles southeast of Kosong with the mission of attacking Tongyong. The enemy is employing self-propelled guns and direct artillery fire against attacking U.S. units. Enemy counterattacks against the 5th U.S. Infantry RCT were repulsed. An enemy roadblock was located between the 5th RCT CP and the unit's forward elements. North Korean troops in the vicinity of Tundok ambushed elements of the 35th U.S. RCT. The 6th North Korean Division continues to offer stubborn resistance to the U.S. advance. By- passed enemy pockets in the Chindong area are being mopped up by the 24th U.S. RCT. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. Heavy fighting continues in the bridgehead area 7 miles west of Yongsan. The enemy has an estimated 2 regiments supported by artillery in this area. The enemy has a small force astride the main road about 7 miles south-southwest of Yongsan and a roadblock about 2 miles southwest of Yongsan. Friendly forces are attacking the roadblock. ROK police reported an undetermined number of enemy troops west of Changnyong. An undeter- mined number of guerrillas engaged the ROK police in the vicinity of Chongdo. The enemy in estimated company strength attacked a signal delay station about 8 miles south of Taegu. The friendly forces withdrew leaving the generator building burning.
