10:40pm PRICHARD to ISATAH BERLIN.
P--Good evening.
I--Good evening.
P--I understand you represented LATVIA at the Russian Embassy
today.
I--I did, I did.
P--Were you recognized?
I--Yes, I waved the flag bravely.
P--Stuffed on vodka and GEFULTE FISH.
I--Exactly it, who told you that? MRS. F.
P--NO, her husband.
I--He enjoyed himself very much.
P--Yes. I understand they were all wearing diplomatic uniforms.
I--They were. They were wearing it with a little dirk on the side.
Rather nice.
P--(Laughs) IS someone there?
I--Yes.
P--Who, BOLEN?
I--Yes.
P--Oh, that makes it very embarrassing.
I--Why?
P--I will have to ask you things you can answer yes or no.
I--Exactly.
P--Are things improving or retrograding?
I--Neither one nor the other.
P--HOW did the "Frogs" (French) get on this afternoon?
I--What?
P--How did the "Frogs" (French) get on this afternoon? (Laughs)
I--Where?
P--With the Comminship (Phon.)
I--What?
P--With the Commander-in-chief?
I--I don't know? What was supposed to happen?
P--Well, just the "Frogs" went to see him this afternoon.
I--What happened?
P--I don't know.
I--I haven't the faintest idea.
P--MY man was over before then so I don't know. Does MR. BOLEN
like MR. CROWLEY (Phon.)?
I--I don't know. I've never asked him. Are you slowing up in
questions.
P--Don't say that, now he'll know I'm calling.
I--No he won't, there are too many people here.
P--Is MRS. BOLEN there?
I--Yes.
P--MR. MABUKOV (Phon.)?
I--No.
P--MISS HALLEY (Phon.)?
