Washington, D. C. June 14, 1945 3:15pm BEN COHEN to YOUNGMAN, to find he is out. COHEN told his steno to tell YOUNGMAN that he will be there tonight. COHEN then talked to CORCORAN and the following conversation took place: TC--Yes, handsome? BC--FRANCIS phoned me back that he'd talked to GREW and GREW says that they tell him this and that, particularly about diplomatic passports, and persona non grata, to the Polish government and FRANCIS said he talked very strongly to GREW that that had nothing in respect to his right to reside here. He's been here five years and GREW said: "Well, he'd have it looked into, and phone him back, " but I just don't know. FRANCIS said it looks as if we Il have to have trouble and WELLS then said the best thing is to find out what it is and then to meet it. TC--Yeah! Wonder if T. V. (SOONG) could help on it? It's pretty hard for him to intervene in a case like this, isn't it? BC--Well, I mean TC--We're going to see you tonight, aren't we? BC--O.K. 5:20pm Mr. CORCORAN for Mr. McGRANERY (Phon.). CORCORAN said he went over that "chatterbox thing. II They will meet in 20 minutes. 5:26pm Mr. LOCKE (Phon.) for CORCORAN. His secretary says CORCORAN has gone home, and LOCKE can reach him at home in 20 minutes. O.K. 5:37pm CORCORAN for Mr. CURRIE (White House). Secretary says he has gone for the day. White House helped CORCORAN contact Mrs. CURRIE at her home. CORCORAN'S secretary asked Mrs. CURRIE to have MR. CURRIE contact him. 5:42pm Mr. BEN COHEN to CORCORAN after being advised YOUNGMAN is out. CORCORAN then talked to COHEN and following conversation took place: BC--Are you going to SOONG's from the office. TC--No, from the house. I want to talk with you. I have an idea on this SERVICE thing. (JOHN SERVICE of the JAFFE case) BC--On what? TC--On SERVICE (JOHN SERVICE) Uh do you remember young JACK BURLING (Phon.). BC--Yeah! TC--He is the ablest customer of the Civil Liberties business in the country, and the name is grand for the boy.
