BC--Well?
TC--I want a job over in your new outfit.
BC--What job do you want?
TC--I want NELSON ROCKEFELLER'S job. He says he's going to leave.
BC--He says he's going to?
TC--Yeah.
BC--You mean he's got to.
TC--We're simply putting it from different points of view.
They then discuss the health of CORCORAN'S children.
TC--Have you talked with HAROLD in the last two days?
BC--No.
TC--ABE FORDICE (Phon.) said last night that nothing more had
been said, but you saw that St. Louis Post-Dispatch
yesterday.
BC--I know nothing, but I'm always afraid when there is so much
talk that it develops into a FRANCIS business. Just as
the State Department thing--I think everyone but STETTINIUS
thinks it is a certainty.
TC--Well, what would you do if you were HAROLD. He sold the
property in Winnetka.
BC--I saw that. It was odd--I was out to BILL's that very day
and BILL mentioned the property and I asked him if he
didn't think he ought to get out of it while the going was
good, and BILL agreed.
TC--He didn't get as much for it as I thought he would.
BC--I thought he'd get a bigger price for it. I've never seen
the property but I had the notion it was worth $100,000
from what I'd heard.
TC--That's what I thought too. But he only got $65,000 and only
35,000 of that down. The rest is purchase money mortgage.
BC--Well, if he gets good interest on it, it's probably better
that way. Who bought it?
TC--I don't know. After I had that talk with you that day I
kept urging him to sell it.
COHEN said that taking everything into consideration, such as
his health, and the fact that there are so many who would fight
him, he thought HAROLD was better off.
BC--Well, I think that's a good deal for him. What else is new?
TC-Nothing. You also saw the story about FRANCIS going to Italy?
BC--No.
TC--That was in the same story. I don't know whether that is true
either.
BC--Where was the story?
