Washington, D. C.
June 20, 1945
1:00pm ANNETTA to JUDGE VINSON'S office at the White House, Ext. 183.
She said that CORCORAN wanted to see the JUDGE this P.M.
JUDGE's secretary said he was out but would call ANNETTA and
tell her the time. O.K.
2:30pm
BEHAN contacted Miss LIEBEL in JUDGE VINSON'S office in the
White House to make an appointment for CORCORAN to see the
JUDGE today at 4:30 P.M.
3:01pm
Secretary ICKES returned CORCORAN'S call but the latter was
talking long distance. CORCORAN will call ICKES back.
3:35pm
CORCORAN contacted WORTH CLARK (NAtional 4882) to ask if CLARK
had seen BENNETT. CLARK answered, "No." CLARK thinks that
"perhaps BENNETT CLARK is drinking up your $5000.0
CORCORAN
stated, "It was probably a bad investment. CLARK stated that
he has forgotten about BENNETT CLARK already. CLARK told TOM
to take down this name: FRANK B. ROBINSON, Moscow, Idaho. He
is the richest man in Idaho. The SEC has issued a subpoena for
him which he has ignored. He is a religious fanatic and a faker,
owns a radio station but is public spirited and a good citizen
in many ways. The better business bureau is after him. ROBINSON
wants CORCORAN'S firm to represent him. It is a tax case.
ROBINSON wants to know why the SEC is after him. He thinks that
the BBB sicked the SEC on him. CLARK asked if there is anyone
over there at SEC who could look up the file over there and then
report. TOM answered that he knows someone at SEC who will do
it but he does not want to injure the CORCORAN firm's position
there. TOM will find out today or tomorrow.
3:40pm
CORCORAN contacted Secretary ICKES:
C--I just want to report to you, sir, that LISTER HILL called
me and he said that he and BOB LaFOLLETTE, after you
talked to BOB this morning, got going on this thing. And
they found out
uh
they talked
uh
the committee is
McCARRAN, EASTLAND, WHERRY and CHANDLER and SMITH. They
talked to EASTLAND and SMITH. One is a Republican and
the other a Democrat. Both of them confessed that neither
one of them knew anything about the thing; that McCARRAN
had sort of roped them into it; that they had gone to one
meeting; but they had no idea what was going on and that
both of them would insist that they would not do a God-
damned thing until they had to and had thoroughly heard
about this thing from the Navy and Interior Department.
I--Yeah.
