C--Oh, Christ. I'm not going to get mixed up in that one.
P--No, but my point is, I got mixed up in it. And at the instance
of the GULLIANS I called CARUSI (Phon.) and TOM SHUMAKER
(Phon.) and had the girl excluded. I just did that out
of pure well, I'm under great personal obligations of all
kinds to them. They are very close personal friends.
C--Well, GULLIAN being an awfully good friend of mine too and I
would not do a damn thing to hurt him.
P--The point is the law had told them that he was going
to see you to get help on this thing.
C--Yeah, well, you tell them
p--Well, I'm not going to tell them anything. They didn't ask
me to call you but I just thought that in case he did,
you'd want to know what the situation is.
C--Yes, and if you have a chance to tell the General, tell him
of course that I won't do anything like that.
P--Yes.
C--I'd appreciate it if you would. And I'm sure that with this
CAFFREY thing, you're straightened out, fellow. And be
careful. I know the job that you've got on your hands to-
night. I'm telling you, fellow, things are moving awfully
fast against our friend, if he lets this pile up. And it
isn't he that's going to ruin him. It's his boy friend
that's over in RUSSIA that's gonna ruin him because the
boy friend has a completely irresponsible bunch in this
town, that don't understand limitation to any power. O.K.
P--Well, I'll talk to him. I'm gonna see him at breakfast.
C--All right. 'Bye!

SENATOR CLAUDE PEPPER to CORCORAN. CORCORAN said he saw BEALE
today and then asked PEPPER how much he was interested in ?
Senator PEPPER told him nothing - it was just that some of the
men in Florida in the folding box industry who belong to the
National Association. They want some friend of mine here to have
it. CORCORAN said that it would be tough and asked if he was to
cut JIM CLEMENS in. Senator PEPPER said he could if he wanted,
but it didn't matter. CORCORAN told PEPPER that the writing
job and speech he did on WALLACE in N.Y. was a honey. PEPPER told
CORCORAN that so many people liked the speech on RUSSIA, but PEP-
PER said that he liked the WALLACE one better. CORCORAN agreed
that was the better speech. CORCORAN asked if that boy told
