DR. REICHMAN to JACK NASON (Assistant to Attorney WILLIAM
YOUNGMAN) asking if there was any news "from the great world.
Our friend is on his way, you know." JACK said he was aware
of that and said that things were very quiet and that BILL
YOUNGMAN would be back in town tomorrow. REICHMAN said he hesi-
tated to ask but a "fellow told me yesterday that the ATC is
going to fly or is already flying from PARIS via PRAGUE to WARSAW.
That's of very great interest to me, you know because I may have
to take a flying visit out there." He asked if the establishment
of the route was a fact. JACK said he would find out and let
him know. O.K.
10.20am CORCORAN to BEN COHEN. The following conversation took place:
BC--Hello!
TC--The cat has swallowed the canary!
BC--Uh, ugh!
TC--Well, you must be feeling very happy and even apart from the
affirmative side of this thing there must be a certain
negative satisfaction to you in the demise of the other
guy (STETTINIUS ?).
BC--Why, he's been promoted.
TC--Yeah, I know. But everybody that's all right---because he
was the guy, the weak sister, that clipped you. I don't
know whether you take joy out of those things. You're
a much more gentle soul I suppose although I've always
suspected that you're as mean underneath as I am. It's
probably a more effective way. well, anyway--congratu-
lations!
BC--Thank you. When did you get back (from New York City)?
TC--I just got back. I was just wondering if it isn't possible
to heave the LULU thing out of the State Department today.
We've only got two days.
BC--Ugh, well, what can you do?
TC--You have relations with OSCAR, don't you?
BC--Why, I haven't seen him since he got back.
TC--Why don't you call him and ask him what he has done on the
thing and when he thinks he can get something done!
BC--Well, what does he tell the fellow he's in touch with?
TC--He tells the fellow he's in touch with that he's arranging
to have this memorandum writter which will clear the thing
for once and for all at the state Department. Maybe the
thing to do is to do nothing for three days, I under-
stand
BC--Why don't you have NASON CACK NASON in CORCORAN'S office ?)
press OSCAR, I mean
