CO SUMMARY Washington, D. C. July 10, 1945 8:30am CORCORAN to (senator) BOB (LaFOLLETTE). CORCORAN said that his car isn't there yet and asked if BOB would pick him up. He will. 8:41am CORCORAN to Senator (JOSEPH) GUFFEY asking if he may see the Senator at 9:15 in the Senator's office. Yes. 10:15am Mr. McCASHEN to (JACK) NASON. MCCASHEN asked if NASON had read the book and NASON replied that he had and that it was interesting. MCCASHEN said he would drop over and get the book as he might need it as something had come up with the British Purchasing Commission in regard to purchases for India. NASON asked if McCASHEN is going to see CHEN (Chinese Embassy ?) (Phon.) and McCASHEN said that CHEN is supposed to get in today. 10:35am CORCORAN to Col. "CHUCK" (LT. COL. CHARLES L.) KADES (war Department Special Staff, Civil Affairs) at War Department, Ext. 3613. CORCORAN asked if there was anyone going over who could carry a letter to HOWIE (CORCORAN's brother ?). KADES said there would be next week. CORCO RAN said that HOWIE has been recom- mended for another promotion and CORCORAN wondered if he would get it if he comes home. CORCORAN said he didn't want him to come home before September 1st. KADES said that if HOWIE puts in a request to come home he probably won't get the promotion; also, if he gets the promotion and then puts in a request to come home the request probably won't be honored. CORCORAN then asked if the Army is sending wives of officers to France. KADES replied that they are not at this time. 10:40am JOHN McCLINTOCK (State Department, Nelson Rockefeller's office) advised CORCORAN that the Brazilian government is looking for an American to represent them in picking up surplus property; that the salary would be about $10,000, but that the salary isn't the important thing; that the important thing is that the man who gets the job would have an entre to some of the important people in the Brazilian government. CORCORAN thanked him and MCCLINTOCK said that the fellow who is in charge of finding someone is named BILL HARDING. CORCORAN then asked who the two guys were in the Army who were interested in "stock piling" (Phon.). McCLINTOCK said he thought they were SOMERVELL (GENERAL SOMERVELL) and BOB PATTERSON (Assistant Secretary of war). 10:45am BILL YOUNGMAN to CORCORAN. YOUNGMAN asked how Lever Bros. was coming and CORCORAN replied that it is coming along well; that "we learned a great deal the other day that it undoubtedly was a personal P & G (Proctor & Gamble) job on WORTH and myself which we think the smart thing to do is just simply to bust it and put in on that basis." YOUNGMAN said that sounded good and he asked what the exact status of it is. CORCORAN said that "we've got another appoint- ment for Friday." YOUNGMAN asked if more briefs had been submitted and CORCORAN said that all that stuff went in on Saturday. YOUNGMAN asked if they were following it through JIM (BRENNAN ?) and CORCORAN said yes. YOUNGMAN asked if LULU (DAVID LUTHER LO) is going away and CORCORAN said he didn't know. YOUNGMAN then asked if he had heard anything from T. V. (SOONG ?) and CORCORAN said that he hadn't but that he would make it his business to find out some-
