Washington, D. C. CO SUMMARY July 24, 1945 10:18 AM BOB FOLKS (phonetic), Secretary to Senator PEPPER, to CORCORAN. FOLKS said, "LEE says he talked to RAYBURN twice yesterday and RAYBURN was supposed to have made that call late yesterday afternoon. FOLKS said that RAYBURN hasn't called LEE today to let him know what was accomplished, but that as soon as RAYBURN calls LEE, LEE will call FOLKS. CORCORAN said he would like to know as he has a 2:30 date on it. 10:23 AM GEORGE SMATHERS to CORCORAN who was out. SMATHERS left a message saying that he talked to CLAUDE PEPPER and told him that CORCORAN had talked with MR. FORRESTAL and that PEPPER is going to see FORRESTAL at 11:30 A.M. today and SMATHERS thought perhaps CORCORAN would like to talk to PEPPER before PEPPER sees FORRESTAL. In case CORCORAN wants SMATHERS, he is at REpublic 7400, Extension 3591. (Re getting a nephew of SMATHERS' out of Navy ?) 10:40 AM MRS. DIAMOND in CLINTON ANDERSON'S office, Agriculture Department, Extension 2730, to JAMES BRENNAN who is out. He will contact her. (She if Mr. ANDERSON's secretary). 11:10 AM MISS DE FALCO to MISS DONOVAN in MR. POGUE's office (L. WELCH POGUE, Chairman of Civil Aeronautics Board) to say that QUINN SHAUGHNESSY is in New York City and can't have lunch with POGUE today. 11:23 AM MRS. DIAMOND, Secretary to CLINTON ANDERSON, Department of Agriculture, is introduced by JIM BRENNAN to CORCORAN. CORCORAN talked with her and told her that ANDERSON yesterday quoted some figures re fats and oils in the Lever Brothers case and now CORCORAN would appreciate the courtesy of being allowed to have JIM BRENNAN and D. WORTH CLARK come to Agriculture at which time they might review the entire file. MRS. DIAMOND checked with Secretary ANDERSON who stated they had permission for such a perusal of the file. She read from the file that 3,916,000 a year, effective October, 1943, is the recommendation. She said the file did not show how that figure was arrived at. 11:35 AM CORCORAN to Extension 600, Department of Interior, asking for FOWLER HARPER (Solicitor) who was busy. HARPER will contact CORCORAN later. 11:37 AM CORCORAN to JAMES P. McGRANERY, Department of Justice, Extension 3, and the following is their conversation: M - Yeah, TOM. C - The world is in the same state. M - Well, what's that about that flesh--flesh was made--or something? C - Yeah, the Word has been made Flesh? Has the Word been made Flesh? M - Well, I don't know but I hope so. Since I saw you last there was a development and I don't know--I think maybe it might be all right. C - Yeah. Yeah. O.K. Well, then that's swell. M - You're not going to be around over this way are you? C - Yeah. I'm coming over this afternoon. M - Will you drop in on me?
