PR SUMMARY
July 22, 1945
11:30 PM
PRICHARD's mother, Kentucky, to PRICHARD.
PRICHARD said FRED was moving over to the Treasury, so he guessed held
be moving over too. She remarked that (DREW) PEARSON predicted FRED
would be the next Vice Presidential nominee and that if TRUMAN doesn't
run, he will be the Presidential nominee. PRICHARD said that if
ROOSEVELT had lived, it was quite possible he would have been. She
asks when he is coming home. He says he doesn't know now. PRICHARD
said BOB NASON is going to stay with (JOHN) SNYDER (new Director of OWM and
R).
She asks who else is going with Judge VINSON. PRICHARD said he didn't
know, as VINSON wasn't going to be sworn in until tomorrow. PRICHARD
said he might have to stay around for a week or two to help SNYDER: that he
had to help SNYDER find someone else. She asks if he has heard from JOHN.
He says no, but perhaps he can get a War Department cable to him. PRICHARD
said he had dinner last night with KAY GRAHAM (phonetic) and the BERLINS 1
(ISAIAH BERLIN, First Secretary at British Embassy). She says, "What about
ICKES?" He said ICKES had about a fifty-fifty chance, with the odds
slightly against him, but that "we're making a great fight for him, we
New Dealers. FRED is for him."
