PR SUMMARY Washington, D. C. August 8, 1945 8:46pm BEN COHEN to PRICHARD, who asked him if he had been talking to JIMMY DUNN (State Department). COHEN said that he had been talk- ing to the Honorable Judge (SAMUEL) ROSENMAN. COHEN mentioned that PRICHARD had taken away his only house key and PRICHARD said he was sorry about that. PRICHARD asked COHEN how his trip was and COHEN replied that it was interesting, but that Berlin was ghastly, with the smell of death all around. PRICHARD asked if COHEN had seen DAVE. COHEN said he had seen him. P--Did you see my friend HENRY ROY? C--No, I didn't see him, I heard someone talking about him. P--He's with DAVE. C--No, he wasn' he didn't come around--- and I saw GEORGE BAUGH (Phon ) and KEN GALBRAITH and NITZA (Phon.). P--Did you see BERNIE BERNSTEIN (Phon.): C--No. And, let's see MARK HOWE (Phon.). P--You saw STALIN. I saw you in a newsreel with him. They then talked about a newsreel in the cabin of the ship in which COHEN was the only one appearing without a coat and COHEN remarked that being in the State Department hadn't changed him. C--Well, now you see, in view of the development why I was eager that you shouldn't go just now. P--Why? C--Well, I mean, I just don't believe the jap war will last so very much longer. P--Well, I wasn't planning to go this instant. That was just an overstatement. I been talking about I talked to FRED (VINSON) about October 1st. C--Well, I mean, I was just disturbed, from your letter I thought that you were feeling badly about what happened. P--Well, I felt somewhat badly about that but there were other reasons. C--Well, I mean, what I had in mind, it's an open question what is best after that. There's much to be said on both sides, but the one thing I was a little worried about that I didn't think being so near to the end that it was mundanely judic- ious to go just now. P--Uh, huh. C--You see, I look at things only from my very fast point of view. P--Uh, huh. C--How are things going in War Mobilization? PRICHARD said that things are going all right, that it is not that they are going badly, it is just that they don't go at all much. He said he gets along all right with his new boss, (JOHN) SNYDER (OWM & R). COHEN asked if SNYDER was holding both jobs and PRICHARD said that they had put old (LEON) HENDERSON in as acting administrator again over at the other place. (At this point COHEN was interrupted by a telephone call. PRICHARD asked if he had been talking to TOM but COHEN said that it was not, although TOM
