12:17 PM HARDING to NASON (Continued):
BELL might get clear. A promise had been made to General KRAMER of
MacARTHUR's Staff to keep a F.E.A. man out there. HARDING said he wanted
BELL to get together with WILLAUER (F.E.A.). HARDING told NASON to let
TOM know of the situation.
12:20 PM
(HAROLD) ICKES to CORCORAN who asks him to let him know if ICKES comes back
later than Monday as TOM is going to Boston on Monday and wants to see
ICKES Monday before he goes. Agreed.
4:12 PM
CORCORAN to (JIM) CLEMENTS (Senator PEPPER's Office) to ask him if he had
seen (EDWARD) PRICHARD. CLEMENTS said that he did, but that PRICHARD said
that he had gotten a cold reception. CLEMENTS said that PRICHARD went to
see (ROBERT) HANNEGAN who said that he would do what he could, and that
PRICHARD was going back to HANNEGAN again today. CORCORAN said that they
were now in a position where all they could do would be delayed until they
could change the situation. CLEMENTS said that he thought that they better
check with HANNEGAN again next week. CORCORAN said "I want you, in talking
to "that fellow", to remember that it is Atlanta that's the real trouble."
CLEMENTS said O.K.
4:48 PM
CORCORAN to (BEN) COHEN, 2795 State Department, to invite him to Sunday
night supper with SOONG. They will eat at 7:00 . CORCORAN said that he
would have to check with SOONG and call COHEN tomorrow. COHEN said
that would be fine. CORCORAN asked if (WILL) CLAYTON were back yet, but
COHEN did not know. He told COHEN that he had to go to Warrenton (Virginia)
tonight.
5:05 PM
CORCORAN to 2795 State Department for (BEN) COHEN. Out. CORCORAN dictates
following cablegram to secretary: "Word through friend would help securing
air priorities other formalities returned. Stop. LUDWIK RAJCHMAN in
London.

CHARLES MURCHISON to TOM CORCORAN. MURCHISON said that BEDELL (phonetic)
is coming in here tonight, and we're going to put on our case probably
tomorrow in the Cincinnati-New York "service", CORCORAN asks, "Before
the full board or just the examiners? MURCHISON says just before the
examiners, but that BEDELL is coming in tonight to help get ready for
the case tomorrow. MURCHISON asked if TOM had any late news to give him
(BEDELL ?). CORCORAN said yes he thought so, that he knew what the situation
was; that this fellow now is cooperating and stalling until "he" leaves,
because on one hand he doesn't want to be against us, and on the other hand
doesn't want to be for us. MURCHISON asked if TOM saw where Mr. WRIGHT of
C.A.A. is going to leave. TOM said he'd already gone. MURCHISON said he
saw in the paper that he had resigned and had been elected to this other job.
MURCHISON said since "he" won't return, it makes it a two-two proposition
right now, and it seemed to him, MURCHISON, a pretty good time to get this
boy before he leaves, to go with us. TOM said he doesn't think he will
(go with us) but that "he" will cooperate with us in the sense that you
can win it (the case). TOM says, "Now maybe - we worked very hard to get
him from this half a negative position I'm talking about to an effective
