- 3 - 1:00 PM CORCORAN to WORTH CLARK (Continued): WC - RALPH had been committed to apparently some fellow from New England, a Captain somebody, and had--they were just a little lukewarm on the thing, I mean, the tales just don't match at all. Either our friend is just not telling the truth or Mr. V. has been feeding your people a lot of stuff. And I think I'd better call our friend and see what's happened. No I had to call him as I told you on Friday--- four calls on my part, each time with the request that he call back. I don't know whether he was out or not, I mean, it's one of those things. I also called yesterday morning with the request that he call back--I have not heard. Now, normally, that fellow has been super friendly to me and I mean really gone out of his way and it is a little odd that he didn't call back. Now, I mean he's really been super friendly and he's even committed himself in writing on things, as I told you, and he's put it in a letter which I have, etc. And whether or not NYE mentioned my name in connection with it and he had a premonition what I was calling about or not, I don't know, I just know that I could not get in thru to him for a day and a half. TC - How close is BOB to him. WC - Now, I don't know. Now, there you are; that's a strange relationship-- I don't think too close. TC - Well, when you talk to Mr. V. say you are a friend of his friend, BOB WILSON's, see, so he 'll know. WC - But, this curious complete clash of reports is disturbing. I can't help but believe that NYE is right in the picture on the deal. Now BILL DOLF said that everybody is having difficulty getting through to VANDENBERG on the telephone; even his people, and as he put it to me he said he was running for President, and (Worth laughs) as you said a little earlier as BILL said, he is running out. I would hesitate TOM, to call BOB, in view of the conflict. Let me call NYE and see-the last information he had according to his report, and I can't believe he would tell something that wasn't true--that they wanted the weekend to think it over. Then I called him back and I discussed this CRUM (phonetic) situation and he said, well, would I (WORTH) talk to Mr. V. about that. I said of course I would and so I just don't know--there is something funny. Mr. V. is probably ducking. TC - The second thing, I wanted to tell you. I reported to you about GEORGE HURLEY and this other thing. WC - Well, you said-- TC - He doesn't want to file with the District Attorney as he says he isn't sure of MENKOFF (phonetic) or whatever it is. He wanted me to ask him and TIM to go up to BOSTON to see CALLAHAN (phonetic), to really get the low-down to see what was going to happen. Will you report that to TIM and see what his reaction to it is and then I'll call him again. WC - I know exactly what his reaction is going to be--he is just going to say no, because we had that all out up there.
