Washington, D. C. CO SUMMARY September 18, 1945 9:45 AM BILL YOUNGMAN to QUINN SHAUGHNESSY. YOUNGMAN wants to get his brother-in- law out of the Navy. QUINN told him to get all the papers together and send them to CORREA but not SWOPE (phonetic). 9:50 AM BILL YOUNGMAN to Major CORREA that his brother-in-law wants to get out of the Navy and has the points. YOUNGMAN wants CORREA to talk to him. CORREA said that he would talk to the boy. O.K. 11:20 AM WORTH CLARK for MATTHEW CONNELLY. He is busy with the President at the moment. 12:30 PM CORCORAN to BILL YOUNGMAN who says there is no meeting of the Export-Import bunch today and BEY wants to send a wire to T. V. SOONG. YOUNGMAN says, "I will drop over and see 'him'. CORCORAN agrees and says, "He will not be in until 2:15." YOUNGMAN says, "I do not want to crowd him. The other guy has been waiting around and wants to go home if there is nothing to do. I want to talk to him about starting some talks with the Export-Import people about terms but 'he' may not have anyone in the present organization. CORCORAN says, "I talked to a friend, HIGH COX who has a friend who wants to tie up with the GARNET organization of law offices in Washington and Fairfax, Virginia, and he wants to be sure he gets in the Washington office and not the Virginia office as a partner. CORCORAN asks YOUNGMAN to call BARRETT PRETTYMAN about it and advise COX. Agreed. 2:05 PM WORTH CLARK to EDDIE at Senate Interstate Committee office. He then transfers to 197 to BERT (WHEELER). WORTH inquired if WHEELER thought that everything was all right with EDWARD (WHEELER) at Navy. BERT thinks so. CLARK wonders who the guy is who gave the information to the Press, and said that they were going to find out who, it was. WORTH said that TOM CORCORAN had talked to FORRESTAL about it. WHEELER said that someone in the Personnel Division made the tip-off. WHEELER also added that maybe someone should talk to the newspaperman. WORTH said that JOHN SULLIVAN would go in quick (as Secretary of the Navy). Both said that they hated to see FORRESTAL go out. WHEELER said that he had written "that fellow" a letter which was answered. He told WHEELER that he had no intention of making a change, that "if the old curmudgeon (ICKES) will be half way decent, I'll be glad to keep him.' WORTH said that he would get out anyway--about the first of the year. WHEELER said that he would. talk to his "guinea" again. CLARK said that he (ICKES ?) would quit with his arm around WORTH. WHEELER said that everything was all right out West but that the C.I.O. crowd out there were still after him. 2:10 PM WORTH CLARK to ABE FORTAS (Interior Department) CLARK said that CORCORAN told him that he (CORCORAN) talked to FORTAS yesterday, and told him about talking to STANLEY KENNEDY. CLARK asked FORTAS to give KENNEDY 15 minutes tomorrow morning. O.K. at 11:00 A.M. CLARK said that KENNEDY is President of Hawaiian Air Lines and Inter-Island Steamship Company.
