- 2 - 3:56 PM TOM CORCORAN to BEDELL MONROE ( Continued): TC - But what we need is, we need this fellow that you are going to see on Monday. We need him to keep people's courage up and if we keep the courage up we're going to win this thing sure as hell. BM - That's right. TC - And we also ought to see to it that he's, he's had a great deal to do with the appointment you and I were discussing last night. And he has said that he was going to back the New England people. Now the New England will be all right. Frankly, he's a great friend of the fellow who was licked in that state through the efforts of this other one and the point is he ought to help us knock off this new dangerous one on the ground that if it wasn't fitting to help the fellow who isn't going to go into it and isn't going to run again that fellow shouldn't be hurt by specific recognition by this administration of the fellow who, by somebody who helped knock off Mr. B's friend last time. O.K. Now, are you going to be here on Monday? BM - I'm going to be in New York but the thing is specifically being handled. TC - Yeah, where can I reach you in New York? BM - At the Ritz Tower, TOM. Now, one more thing, TOM. A couple of our people think that I ought to go over and have a little chat personally with MR. STOKES and take exception to a few of the things he said as a matter of record. Now, I wondered myself-- TC - As a matter of record? Who, MR. POGUE? BM - No, MR. STOKES. TC - No, never fool with that guy. BM - Well, that's--I wanted your opinion. TC at No, I'm very sure of that. BM - Because no matter how much truth I could tell him it wouldn't do any good because he has already printed it. If he'll print it without any more looking into the truth than he did, or attempting to do it, TC - No, the only way to handle a guy like that is leave him alone. BM - I think so, too. You know, our friend FULTON (LEWIS), if we wanted to stir the thing we could make quite a play because you remember the ex-governor wrote a very threatening letter-- TC - That's right. Now, I could handle that if you wanted to. BM - I was just wondering. Everything looks right now on the surface in the papers as if well we were the ones who were the only one to blame but I'm not so sure who paid the other side of the fence. Now that letter that came into the Board should be public property-- TC - That's right. BM - And I'm not so sure that FULTON couldn't take that up and say, "Look, here's a guy that threatened this and that unless favored people get it-- TC - Yeah, well maybe that's the thing to do. If it goes any further, I'm sure it's the thing to do. BM - If that could be done, TOM, I think it would be tremendous help and in other words would provide--you were talking about back-bone-- it would scare some of these guys from playing that way which was done deliberately to try to--
