TOM CORCORAN to BOB FOLKS (phonetic), in Senator PEPPER'S office.
CORCORAN said, "T I ve been talking to GEORGE KILLIOM about FLANIGAN
(phonetic) for a diplomatic post because CLAUDE (PEPPER) had. been talking
to me about it. Now, the other day he (KILLIOM) sends me this note:
'Senators PEPPER and ANDREWS asked me to meet their Dr. HARRY BLOCK of
Florida who is interested in a diplomatic post. You mentioned the name of
some other worthy citizen of Florida who is also interested in a diplomatic
assignment. Please clarify. 1 CORCORAN asked, "Now which do you want--
FLANIGAN or BLOCK?" BOB said that KILLIOM got it mixed up because, "The
letter was written in my name--the man BLOCK is just trying to get a job--
$3600 or something like that with F.E.A. or "
CORCORAN asked that
BOB prepare a memo to the effect that FLANIGAN is PEPPER's choice and
send it to KILLIOM. BOB will do so.
11:40 AM
WORTH CLARK to JOHN BROWNELL of Lever Brothers, Kirkland 8100, Cambridge,
Massachusetts. WORTH said that BENNETT (CLARK) is in bed in New York
with a broken knee cap and will have to transact all the business with
CLINTON ANDERSON by telephone. WORTH said that BENNETT wants to know
how to get in touch with THOMAS PRITCHARD and BROWNELL said that
PRITCHARD works for the Wilbur Ellis Company in Manhattan.
4:10 PM
JOE PANUCH (O.W.M. and R.) to TOM CORCORAN. Latter said that TOM
CLARK will return to Washington Tuesday and that GEORGE KILLIOM's office
had called the AG's office about TOM CLARK seeing MAURICE COLTON. TOM
said that it was therefore all set. TOM asked JOE: "Did you make a deal
yesterday?" and JOE said: "He's going to Spartanburg tonight." TOM asked
if JIMMY (BYRNES?) was going too and JOE said he did not know.
