TOM CORCORAN to LEO CROWLEY (via Federal Deposit in Washington) in
Chicago. TOM says, "These were FRED's (VINSON) recommendations (Export-
Import Bank): For President, ED FOLEY; for the Democratic Director,
HERBERT GASTON; for the two Republican Directors, SUMNER PIKE for one
and this CRUMM from California." LEO says, "Those were his? Well,
JIMMY recommended STEVENS. JIMMY recommended ED FOLEY, did he not?"
TOM says, "Yeah, JIMMY also recommended RAVENSKY (of New York City),
did he not?" LEO says, "Yes." TOM says, "So out of that pack you can
pick a good one I think." LEO says, "Was it his idea that ED would be a
director?" TOM says, "No. These recommendations were put in over a
month ago. He did not think of it at the time. But he will." LEO
says, "We have only two Democratic directors." TOM says, "No, three.
JIMMY BYRNES, you and ED FOLEY. 11 LEO agrees. TOM says, "Then there
are
two others and they would be JOE and SUMNER PIKE who would both be good."
LEO agrees and says he will be in Washington Tuesday.
